03.13.22 Life with Jesus - Lament Over Jerusalem

March 14, 2022

Jeremiah 26:8-15; Philippians 3:17-4:1; Luke 13:31-35

What a privilege it must have been when Israel was rescued by God. What an incredible king God was with His people. A king of truth, power, and love. Yet, Israel did not follow their savior. God was patient and forgiving, but Israel will would not follow Him. When God Himself came down to help and guide, His people would not accept God as their king. After the consequences, they lamented. Do you ever lament?

Deuteronomy 26:1-11; Romans 10:8b-13; Luke 4:1-13

The First Sunday in Lent begins with the temptation of Jesus. Alone in the wilderness, Jesus faces the temptations of the devil, who tries to use God’s own Word to entrap Jesus. The collect reminds us that we are also walking through the wilderness of this world, taunted and tempted by the devil, who still uses God’s Word to entrap us. Jesus does not simply show us how to resist but reveals that our strength lies in the same Word of God. In Christ, we stand strong against the wiles of the devil and, when and if we fall, we find refuge in Christ to be forgiven and restored.

Isaiah 12:1-6; Romans 5:1-11; Matthew 6:25-33

Tick Tock Tick Tock - It’s amazing how sometimes time is moving so fast we can’t keep up. It’s amazing time is moving so slow we want it go faster. What a gift that we have the God who has all time in His hands.

Malachi 3:6-10; 2 Corinthians 9:6-15; Matthew 19:16-30.

In commenting on the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer, “Give us this day our daily bread,” Martin Luther writes, “God certainly gives daily bread to everyone without our prayers, even to all evil people, but we pray in this petition that God would lead us to realize this and to receive our daily bread with thanksgiving.” God’s bounty is given to all people. It is a blessing to be able to receive that bounty with thanksgiving and to respond to the goodness of God. The Old Testament custom of tithing is worthy of our consideration as appropriate expressions of thanksgiving to God, as we reflect on our motivation for giving. Our return on God’s trust to us is to be a central part of our worship.

02.06.22 Stewardship - Living the G.O.O.D. Life

Everyone wants to live the “good life.” We usually define the good life as being healthy and wealthy. We make plans to gain the things we think will finally make us happy, houses, cars, boats, and cabins. There is nothing wrong with these things as such, but the more you chase after the things of the world on the world’s terms the more you will find yourself discontent or disappointed with them. God has laid out a way for us to live designed to bring us true freedom and joy, this is found in our God Ordained Opportunities and Duties. The “good life” is actually found by living life God’s way. Another word for this kind of life is “stewardship.” Trough the month of February we will explore what it means to live the G.O.O.D Life.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Revelation 20:11-15; Matthew 25:31-46

Do you remember what Jesus told His disciples about when He would return? Jesus said, “But concerning that day or that hour, no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be on guard, keep awake. For you do not know when the time will come” (Mark 13:32–33). Do you remember the promise the angels shared as Jesus ascended? “This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him go into heaven” (Acts 1:11). Be on guard, keep awake, and remember He is coming soon.
